Enclosure 1.

Sir,

Civil Hospitabo SEP II

Hongkong, July 4th.,

1911.

We the undersigned Sisters have the honour to respectfully submit a petition, for the consideration of His Excellency the Governor, that our conditions of service may be altered in the following respects, in order to put us on the same footing as Sisters in other Colonies.

1.

2.

An initial agreement of 3 years in lieu of 5. After appointment on the permanent staff, to be allowed long leave after 3 years service instead of 5.

3.

Allowance of fuel and light to Sisters on sterling salaries.

A

as follows:

1.

Three months full pay leave or a bonus in

lieu thereof at the end of our initial

appointment if we do not join or are not appointed to the permanent staff.

Our reasons for making this application are

Hongkong and Malta are the only Colonies which insist on a 5 years agreement, elsewhere the period is 3 years, and we submit that the climatic conditions here do not warrant such an increase, the moist atmosphere making the hot weather extremely trying.

2.

At present, if appointed to the permanent staff, we must complete 6 years service before obtaining long leave and subsequently unlike all other Civil Servants except the Police, we only obtain long leave after periods of 5 years, we submit that these periods are too long and we would point out that in other Colonies the periods are 3 years.
